How do I transfer files to my website? See our Quick Start Guide. Will I be able to access my site for updates 24 hours per day? You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure. How long does it take to get my new account on-line? We guarantee that your account will be on-line and waiting for you to upload your files not later than 24 business hours of receiving payment! Most accounts are ready within 30 mins - 2 hours. Once an account is set up, we send you an activation notice via email. You can then call us toll-free to get your login-password information. Unlike most companies we do NOT send this information by e-mail. This is designed to protect both your account and our servers from break in by hackers. You can begin uploading files to your new website immediately. How long is it before my domain is active? Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect the new site's location. Do I have to sign a contract to get a server with Web Hosting Sizzle? No! Our service should speak for it's self, not some legal garble keeping you here. You lease a server on a month-to-month basis. Of course if you wish you can always pay a year-in-advance and receive a 10% discount. Can I access my domain without the "www" in front? Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example:[http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, which ever you prefer. Can I use my account for commercial purposes? Naturally! However, we do not allow pornographic sites or sites which engage in illegal activities for any reason and if discovered, your account will be terminated immediatey without refund per our acceptable use policy. Can I subdivide my space and resell it? No, we don't allow you to create subdirectories which you can use for resale purposes unless you have optd for a reseller account with us. You can, however, offer space to friends for non-commercial sites. In your user interface you can even give them their own directory. However we do not point domains to subdirectories of a main domain but strongly suggest our Multiple Domain Account for clients with more than one domain name or who wish to target search engines using an option like keyword.yourdomain.com Can I register additional domains to point to a subdirectory of my main domain? No. We do provide for free domain pointing of additional accounts you own pointing to your master domain. This will save your business a lot of money and should give you all the options and features you need. Can I have additional domains pointing to the same main page as my current domain? Yes, we can mirror your main web pages and mail system. This is a great way to expand the marketing of your present business. Are third level domains available?(myname.domain.com) Yes, We can give you a third level domain name such as yourname.ourdomain.net or if you have a existing domain with us anyname.yourdomain.com. The advantage to these is internic registration is not needed. This means no internic registration fees. Are extra FTP, telnet and pop accounts available? Yes. For a minimal additional charge - please contact our sales staff for a quote Who is internic? The InterNIC is an independent organization responsible for holding the registration and routing of Internet domain names. Without these people, it would be virtually impossible to maintain sanity on the Internet. Registration fee is $70 for the first two yearsand $35/year thereafter for your virtual domain name. What if I go over my traffic allowance? On most accounts we do not have a traffic allowance. On our Standard accounts we allow a maximum of 3 GIG. Less than 1% of clients use this amount of bandwidth. However your site is monitored and you will receive email warnings prior to changes. You may purchase extra traffic $20.00 per gig. Can I add more space to my site? Yes, we provide free space upgrades on an as-needed basis with justification. Can I install my own cgi scripts? Yes, as long as the account type you are purchasing supports CGI. We only monitor for poorly written scripts that may become resource hogs. Will server side includes work on your server (SSI)? Yes, SSI's will parse on any page ending in .sht or .shtml, rather than the usual .htm or .html. Can you handle foreign domain names? Yes. We are set up to provide service for over 100 countries, for internic domain names you will need to file the registration with your local NIC. What is Majordomo? Majordomo is a full featured mailing list program that allows your customer the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe. This type of list is particular designed as a method of interaction, and can be run as a closed or open, moderated or not. As the list owner you can control all email allowed to be distributed to the list. Do you offer dialup internet access? No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to yoursite. If you have questions concerning your current Internet access, and whether or not it will comply with Zone Internet's web services, please contact us via e-mail. Do you maintain backups of my data? Yes, we do backups of your home and WWW directories on a daily basis. You can also create backups via your Web Control Panel. Do you handle the domain registration? Yes we can as long as you authorize us to use your credit card to register the domain. We will contact the InterNIC once your account is activated to request either a new domain name registratio nor a domain name modification (trasferring an existing domain to our servers). Can I transfer a existing domain to your servers? Yes, just be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When InterNIC announces the completionof the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS. When we file a modification, one of the current listed contacts must ok the move. Internic will send a email that you must ok to have the redirection of your domain completed. If the contact email on your domain has changed from the time you originally registered it, you will need to fax a authorization to complete the process using a tracking number we will provide upon request Do you put banner ads on any of your accounts? How can I find out if the domain I want is available? We provide an online utility for your use. Search here. Who will register my domain name? Web Hosting Sizzle will register your domain for you and make you the "Administrative" and "Billing" contacts. Web Hosting Sizzle will be listed as "Technical Contact". This way you have full control and ownership of your domain. We can only register NEW domains for Web Hosting Sizzle customers paying by credit card Do I still have to pay the InterNIC for my domain name? For a new domain name, the answer is yes. It costs nothing to move a domain name you already own. If you are transferring an existing domain name the InterNIC does not charge nor do we. So if you are moving from another host or need to, we will transfer your domain for you for free! What is the process for transferring my domain? We will take care of all new and transfer request forms for you. You will be sent an email from the InterNIC asking you to accept the transfer request. Your current Web host will also receive this letter and may veto it. This is what we call the "hostile host" and you do have the authority to veto their veto (should the need arise). The prompt return of this InterNIC email on both parties behalf is important. Other than that you may have a period of downtime anywhere from 24-72 hours if your old host closes your account and depending on how fast the InterNIC is processing orders and how fast you can upload your files to your IP address (this is what you receive until the InterNIC has processed the domain registration). Also remember that the ISPs all over the world have to update the new changes in the InterNIC database. Most ISPs do this three times a day, some as little as once per week. This may attribute to a little domain-downtime as well. However your site will always be reachable via your IP address. In order to assure prompt transfer make sure your email address with the InterNIC is correct. All of these factors included, give yourself a good week to get your domain up. Another good idea is to forewarn all participating parties of your moving by putting up a "We are moving" note on your existing home page with moving dates and a reminder note to hit "Reload" to refresh their cache to see the new page on the new server. |
